February is nearly over and although a brief month, it marks the end of the deepest winter and we start enjoying a little bit more light in the mornings and evenings. It makes such a change to my mood to leave work when it's still light outside!
I've been thinking about what I've enjoyed the most during the past month and decided to include a couple of things that aren't beauty related. Hope you enjoy it!
1. Brown eye liner
This month I have been embracing more natural make up on a daily basis. I always like to keep things simple, and I normally only wear black liquid eye liner and mascara. However, I fancied a bit of a change and got this wonderful eye liner pencil from Nars at the beginning of the month. It has a bit of sheen, but no shimmer, and it gives you just about the right amount of definition without looking like you’re wearing any make up on your eyes. It is a longwear formula that doesn’t budge, so I also use it on my lower lashline without any worry that I'll end up with racoon eyes. I’m a bit alarmed at how quickly I’m going through it, but it really is so brilliant I have not touched my black eyeliner for weeks!
Because I’ve kept my eye make up so simple this month, I’ve quite enjoyed rocking a red lip on a Saturday night. When I do, I only wear mascara and no eye liner at all. The result is very put together for minimum effort, which is exactly my ideal. My new favourite red is this one from YSL in 01 Le Rouge, which I got for Christmas.
I’ve also used a plum shade from Max Factor (it doubles up as the most perfect cream blush as well!) and Bourjois Velvet lipstick inNude-ist, which actually looks quite dark on me.
I love avocado in all its shapes and forms, and this eye cream is no exception. It is in fact the only eye cream I have ever used religiously. I find it very moisturising but not greasy at all, and it is quite brightening as well, so apart from helping concealer glide on, it makes you look more awake.
I nearly didn’t buy this, because I thought that it was such a statement coat that I would hardly wear it. How wrong was I! Even though it is heavily patterned, because the colours are so neutral, it looks great with just about anything, and makes the gloomy days a bit more fun. I’ve practically lived in it this month, wearing it to work, on casual days out and evenings as well. It is probably my favourite buy this winter.
January was quite a sluggish month for me, but I started February with lots of energy and willingness to get moving and have some fun. Zumba has been around for years, and I have been to different classes before that have been OK. However, I have started going to a new class with a couple of friends and we LOVE it! Sarah, the teacher, is a little gem. We’ve been shaking our booties to “Uptown Funk” and “Shake it off” in between all the Latin tunes and have laughed so hard that Monday evenings are now even more fun than the weekend!
I’d love to hear what have been your favourite things this month, whether it is a nail polish, a song, a book or a new pursuit.
