March favourites

Spring has sprung and the clocks have just gone into summertime mode, which is such a good feeling after what feels like an eternal winter! I had to think hard this month to come up with a small list of favourites, as I've been very low maintenance this month, but there are a few things that I have been using very happily during March that are worth a mention.

Why routine is a good thing

I have been resisting routine for a very long time, partly unconsciously but also with every fibre of my conscious being. I am Spanish, so you would be forgiven for assuming that I am programmed to be laid back and spontaneous. Whilst not everyone in Spain is blissfully chilled, there definitely is a difference pace of life, a more start-stop attitude than the go, go, go that is so common in the UK. Then of course we all like to think that we are spontaneous and go with the flow.

Pineapple smoothie bowl recipe

I've always liked smoothies, but over the past 6 months I've gone from always making banana with oats and chocolate to having a Pinterest board dedicated to them and mostly making them up depending on what's too ripe in the fruit bowl.

They make a great breakfast, whether you're on the go and need something to take with you, or if you're feeling a bit worse for wear after a night out.

My latest concoction is this delicious pineapple smoothie bowl. Pineapple is a super fruit packed full of vitamins. It contains vitamin C, which is an antioxidant and boosts our immune system. It also contains vitamin A. For the body conscious, it is known to avoid fluid retention and therefore contributing to a less bloated, flatter stomach.

The beauty products I am currently lusting after

Since this year started I've really tried to be very frugal and stopped myself many times before buying new products. However, I am running out of a few things at the moment and I have a trip home coming up, which means a couple of hours at the airport and being able to buy cheaper beauty products. These 4 are top of my shopping list!

Coconut oil. The one ingredient hair mask

It is fair to say that we all like to have healthy looking shiny hair, but sometimes it can be a bit tricky to achieve. You may be growing your hair long, colouring it, using too much heat on it, or all of them! I've been guilty of all of them at some point. Last year I started experimenting a bit more with colour and have been having sort of highlights since then, especially through the ends, which has made my hair fairly dry and brittle.

A very simple and very delicious lentil stew

One of the best things about some of Spain's comfort food is that it is very healthy. Probably to make up for the other half of our comfort food which could give you a heart attack if eaten too frequently! I feel lucky to have grown up on the Mediterranean diet. It's fresh, varied, tasty and so good for you. However, this is something that I didn't particularly appreciate when I was younger, and I am not the only one. Ask any Spanish person about lentils and they will probably all tell you the same story. We hated them as kids but we were forced to eat them by our mums because they were so good for you. Then, suddenly one day as adults we started really loving them.

Stylish free downloads

I like to change the background of my gadgets quite regularly, especially my laptop. I spend so much of my days sitting in front of it that I prefer to have a bright image to cheer me up in the winter or a motivating quote. There are A LOT of free desktop wallpapers on the net, but so many of them are just a little bit bland or so absolutely full of images that it’s impossible to find what I want. Over time I have come across a few good websites that have plenty of choice but their selections are much more the style I like!

This blog is my absolute favourite! The dress your tech posts are full of really colourful backgrounds not only for your laptop, but also tablet, phone, etc. There is a mixture of interest patterns, bright florals and motivational quotes that aren’t twee at all. I couldn’t love it more. I also follow DLF on Instagram as she is always posting lots of bright photos which are straight up my street.
