Best of January
I don't think I have ever started a year with so many good intentions as 2016, mostly health related, so it is not surprising that this post is going to be mostly about that. I've always though of January as a gloomy month, with Christmas gone, the weather being really cold and days still short and dark. For the past few years I have developed some fondness for it and it is a time to be cosy and a new beginning. So, in no particular order, here are the things I particularly enjoyed.
SIMPLE GREEN SMOOTHIES. 30 DAY CHALLENGE
Ok, I said that these were in no particular order, but this has been the most enjoyable thing I have done this month. I heard about Simple Green Smoothies on The Good Life Project podcast. The business is mostly a website and all its social media with lots of green smoothie recipes. A few times each year they do a 30 Day Challenge which is completely free. You sign up in advance and you get weekly emails with a shopping list and a list of smoothies. They claim lots of benefits, including weight loss. If I am completely honest, I haven't noticed any weight loss, but I have been able to replace some bad food choices (that cappuccino at 3pm to be able to get through the afternoon at work) with the smoothies. What drew me to it was that this was not a diet nor was it about replacing a meal. It was simply about adding something healthy and yummy to your day. I will definitely keep having them, maybe not every day, but definitely a few times each week!
A REALLY GOOD WATCH: MAKING A MURDERER
This Netflix series has become an instant success, with so many people posting about it on social media in recent weeks. It is a documentary about Steven Avery, a man wrongly accused of rape who spent 18 years in prison. That is only the beginning, and as the story unfolds you see how involved the police were in his arrest and later implication on another crime. If you like Serial you will love it. I have never been a fan of crime stories but between Serial, The Jinx and now this I am really into the genre!
FROM ROSES: A SLOWER SEASON. STAYING HAPPY IN WINTER
I always like Rebecca's thought provoking posts, and this one caught my attention in a month when everywhere else was about taking up new habits and doing more. She talked about taking it slowly this winter and really enjoying it, which I think is a wonderful way of seeing the beginning of the year with its chilly temperatures.
THE SUNDAY CHAPTER: 38 HEALTHY HACKS FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
If you want to be healthier you don't have to do a major overhaul of all your life, becoming a marathon runner and give up all the food you like. You can introduce small changes little by little, and this post shows you just how many small things you can do. Some of the ones I am currently doing are dry brushing and batch roasting vegetables. I told you it was simple stuff.
Beauty wise I finally finally got the Aura mask by Antipodes but I want to use it a bit more before I say much about it.
How was your January and what did you get up to?
