Hema make up

Although I really like make up, I wear less and less of it and always like to keep it as quick and simple as possible. The step that I rarely skip is eyeliner, as my eyes are brown, the same colour as  my hair, and not huge, so they always need a little bit of help with definition. I used to be a fan of black liquid liner and wear it most days, even if it was a very thin line, but I had fallen out of love with it. Quite often it would fade throughout he day, or transfer onto my eyelids and even cheeks, so there is no wonder that I had stopped.

Last month I spent a day with a friend who always wears the perfect black feline flick and it lasts all day, so as we were having dinner I had to ask her what was the secret behind it. Her answer was that for hers to last it had to be liquid and have a brush applicator. She told me her favourites were by Rimmel and a Dutch budget brand called Hema, so given that we were in Amsterdam, the next day I rushed to the nearest Hema to look for it!

The beauty products I am currently lusting after

Since this year started I've really tried to be very frugal and stopped myself many times before buying new products. However, I am running out of a few things at the moment and I have a trip home coming up, which means a couple of hours at the airport and being able to buy cheaper beauty products. These 4 are top of my shopping list!

Glowing skin in winter

I can't wait for spring! It's been so gloomy lately that I can't remember when was the last time I felt the warmth of the sun. All this cold air, rain and central heating have not done my skin any favours and they've turned it rather dull, so I have made it my mission to fight the elements and have some glow this winter. This is my double plan of attack.

January favourites

January is the month of the year when most of us try to be our best selves - go to the gym, start running, meditate, drink 2 litres of water, eat more greens, and quite often stick to our skincare routine. It is a fresh start, a clean slate.

Make up clear out

Make up and skincare are my Achilles heel. Although I like to think that in my thirties I have figured out what works for me and what doesn't, sometimes I am tempted by 3 for 2 offers, gifts with purchase, etc. and end up with a growing pile of products that either aren't right for me or that I have better versions of already.

Over time I have accumulated many products that I simply don't use, and there are four distinct trends there:

What's in my beauty bag - Travel edition

It is Christmas and I am back in my native Spain for a week to spend the holiday season with my family and friends. These trips are what my friends in the UK call a holiday, and in reality they are a balancing act of a very busy schedule seeing all my relatives (and it is a BIG family) and finding some time to unwind and recharge the batteries. The truth is that although this isn't a holiday like going away to the Caribbean, there is nothing like walking into your family home to make you feel like a child again, in the best way possible.

I like to pack as light as possible, and as an ex-pat, the numerous trips back home have turned me into a pro when it comes down to packing. Having said that, I always struggle to trim down the contents of my beauty bag. I like to have a little bit of variety and to bring a couple of treats. Here is what I brought with me this time:

Skincare
If you had a few masks and a sunscreen this is what I use at home. I try to save travel sizes, especially moisturisers, but this time I only had one lying around.
